Ecclesiastes 9:11-12 (KJV)
11 I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all.
12 For man also knoweth not his time: as the fishes that are taken in an evil net, and as the birds that are caught in the snare; so are the sons of men snared in an evil time, when it falleth suddenly upon them.

Ecclesiastes 12:13-14 (KJV)
13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.
14 For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.

Solomon who is considered the wisest man of all, observed and watched the affairs of men and women. One of the things he observed was that the fastest runner does not always win the race, the strongest soldier does not always win the battle, those gifted with wisdom do go hungry, and those who have a skill are not necessarily wealthy, and the educated man does not always lead a life of success. It sometimes is decided by chance; being in the right place at the right time. No one can predict when the hard times will come much like a fish caught in a net or a bird in a trap. Mankind faces tragedy sometimes suddenly. The one thing Solomon concluded of all the things he observed was to fear God and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. There will be a day when God will bring every work into judgment, all secrets will be revealed whether they are good or evil. There is no one exempt when tragedy decides to knock on your door, but the Psalmist spoke of dwelling in the secret place of the most High where you do not have to live in fear. When you make the Lord your habitation you do not have to fear evil and He will protect you from anything that is knocking upon your door to strike you down. Circumstances come to our lives, but it is important “who” we lean on during the trials. Trust in the Lord and abide under the shadow of the Almighty. Receive the blessings that will get you through the hardest of situations.
