Hebrews 13:7 (KJV)
7 Remember them which have the rule over you, who have spoken unto you the word of God: whose faith follow, considering the end of their conversation.

Hebrews 13:17 (KJV)
17 Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you.

Submission to anything or anyone is against human nature. No one likes being told what to do. The writer of Hebrews is not trying to tell people to subject themselves to a tyrant of leadership. On the contrary he is suggesting following their faith, considering their life and how they live it. If they are a true watchman than they will preach the word that you need to hear so that you can be saved. The obedience is not in the man but in the word of God that is presented by the man chosen to be your leader or pastor. In the KJV Bible, in the Old Testament, the word pastor is found in the book of Jeremiah.  Jeremiah is making a plea to the Lord because he felt that Israel was not listening to his warnings. He was praying and hoping the Lord would give him a word to give to the people. In all that he had been through he never once wanted to walk away from the responsibility of being a pastor to Israel. Pastor is a term of one who tends flock, Jeremiah felt Israel was his flock. In the New Testament it is found in Ephesians 4:11, “And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;”.  Mostly in the new testament the term minister is used for those who preach the word; Bishop is a Greek term of one who oversees a church or a group of churches. Another term is Shepherd which mostly referred to the Lord Jesus Christ. Peter like to use that word in his writings. Could it be that he was always motivated by Jesus’ last word to him to “feed his lambs” and then to “feed his sheep”? All ministers, whether they are pastors, teachers, evangelist, apostles or prophets purpose is for perfecting of the saints, work of the ministry, for edifying of the body (the church) of Christ till they all come in the unity of faith and knowledge of Jesus Christ. There purpose is to speak the truth in love, not as a Lord over anyone’s life. When you submit to the word of God and be respectful to the leadership it is profitable for your life. There are blessings that flow because you adhere to the preaching of the word. Receive your blessings today because of your obedience to the Word.
